TWO DALES 17TH TO 19TH JUNE 2006
The weather for the first Drifter week end was glorious and the ride to Two dales near Matlock was uneventful. We arrived on the Friday afternoon and checked into a beautiful little guest house very near the pub where the rally was to be held.
After unpacking the bike we strolled the 50 yards to the pub to meet up with our fellow Drifter owners. It would be unfair of me to single out anyone from the group they were most welcoming and friendly and we soon settled down with some refreshments. Our hosts this week end were Butch and Beverly and the Black Aces motorcycle club. Thanks to whom the whole week end was a tremendous success. The first evening was spent getting acquainted and enjoying the hostels fine ales. Supper that evening was supplied by a local take away and was delicious.
Saturday dawned fine and after breakfast with Alex we sallied down to the pub to greet the new arrivals. Today’s schedule was a ride to Bakewell in the morning to sample the world famous Bakewell pudding and to visit a private motorcycle museum. Because of our numbers we split into two groups so as not to overwhelm the little museum. This first sally out for the group was most enjoyable especially the puddings which were divine. Returning to the camp site we had a short rest then reassembled for Indian Johns big ride out. This was most entertaining and quite challenging through the wilds of Derbyshire ending up at the Cat and Fiddle public house at the top of the snake pass between Glossop and Sheffield. The more adventurous amongst us then rode through the pass, a very challenging twisty road which they assured us was fantastic. On our return to Two Dales we changed for the evenings soiree and a barbeque in the garden.
A most excellent evening of fine ale delicious barbequed food and entertainment. The Pub had a folk type entertainment and our own Lone Wolf ably assisted with his instrument leaving many on the Sunday morning with sore heads.
Saying good bye on the Sunday after another fine breakfast was a wrench but we will all meet again soon in Wales.
